korg Keyboard - M 50

Korg M50

Music Workstation
Item Description
Korg is one of the biggest names in professional keyboards, and they know that a great workstation needs to excel in many different roles. The M50-61 meets and exceeds expectations as a live performance instrument, an integral part of your studio, and as an inspirational composition tool.
Live Performance Instrument
The finest instruments in the world marry beautiful sonics with a solid and expressive feel, and the Korg M50 is no different. The EDS (Enhanced Definition Synthesis) sound engine gushes with thick synth tones, complex articulated acoustic instruments like strings and brass, and some of the most realistic and playable piano tones in any keyboard in any price range. The main trigger for these sounds is the keyboard--and on the M50-61 that means 61 of Korg's new semi-weighted Natural Touch keys for fast and satisfying synth-action. You also get Korg's righteous joystick controller for combined pitch bend and modulation control. Adding to your performance vocabulary are four real-time control knobs, assignable to any parameter of a patch, but automatically assigned to the ones that you'll get the most use out of. Finally, there are four "chord-assign" buttons which can be used to auto-trigger complex voicing with a single finger, leaving a free hand for melodic playing and turning you into your own accompanist. Adding to your onstage powers is the M50's powerful Combi mode. Up to 16 layers of instrumentation can be combined and triggered simultaneously, and voices can be split by note-range or velocity--it's like controlling a whole orchestra with your hands. Topping things off, the M50 supports the KARMA player for the most lifelike, organic, and intelligent backing sequences ever developed.
Integral Studio Component
These powerful sounds are of obvious benefit in the studio, but your M50 becomes so much more when connected to your computer. Via USB, the M50-61 can be accessed as a plug-in with most major multitrack recording programs. Sounds can be triggered directly, and parameters can be automated just as you would any virtual instrument. Since the M50 powers its own sounds, it takes the processing burden away form your computer's CPU. Of course it also makes an amazing keyboard controller, but the M50 can even act as a DAW control surface. Simply select the appropriate template from a list and get tactile command of your sessions. The Korg M50 turns your entire studio into an expressive instrument.
Compositional Tool
Korg knows the M50 is going to inspire you to think about music in new ways. When you're struck with a flash of brilliance, you're only one button-press away from capturing your ideas in a 16-track sequencer. This sophisticated sequencer makes brilliant use of the M50's touch-sensitive screen, which insures you'll never second guess how to access a function or make changes to a mix. How do you move the fader on channel 7? Just touch and slide the graphical slider on the screen. It couldn't be more straightforward, meaning you'll spend less time learning the keyboard and more time making music.
Manufacturer's Description for Korg M50-61 61-Key Synth Workstation
Weighing in at just fifteen pounds is the fiery new KORG M50, ready to take on all contenders! Incredible new sounds; fat & juicy combis, splits and layers; a plethora of ace effects; dynamic Drum Tracks; enhanced poly-arpeggiators; classic sequencing tools, a solid, confident keybed; up-to-date SD storage; companion editing software and our famous TouchView interactive display - it all adds up to an invigorating and sexy keyboard instrument that could only come from KORG.
There's One for Everyone
Over twenty years of category-defining workstation expertise beats in the heart of the M50 Music Workstation. Just as the M3 borrowed elements from the legendary OASYS, the M50 captures all the sonic firepower of the M3, distilled into a performance instrument that is second to none. In a word, the M50 just may be the keyboard you've been waiting for. Both 73* and 61 note versions are available, sporting a new semi-weighted Natural Touch keyboard. This new fast and responsive synthesizer keybed facilitates expressive and dynamic performing. Tipping the scales at a mere 46 pounds, the seriously portable 88 key version features our top-of-the-line RH3 Graded Hammer Action, and provides a satisfying performance experience for the piano purist!
A Natural Performer
Made to be played, the M50 is inviting and comfortable. The TouchView screen is intuitive and interactive, allowing the uniquely angled front panel to remain refined and uncluttered. The buttons themselves are rock solid, backlit and rounded for visibility ease-of-use under any playing conditions. In addition to Korg's four-way joystick and multi-function knobs, the M50 offers four Chord Triggers that provide a flexible and fun way to play chords and trigger arp patterns. A ten key numeric keypad allows on-demand instant access to sounds, combis and other parameter/values.
Control surface with 4 Chord Trigger buttons Hundreds of drum track patterns, and over a thousand arpeggiator patterns - including chord grooves, picking-patterns, and more - are instantly available to add punch and pizzazz to your M50 performance, and to provide hours of inspiration.
Perfectly Shaped Sounds
M50 is packed with over 600 individual sound programs, each one created by Korg's renowned international voicing team. With a robust 256 MB of sample data* - recorded in exacting studio conditions - the acoustic instruments are delivered with authenticity and realism, providing rich, natural articulation; synth sounds can be bombastic and aggressive, lush and enveloping, or pure and delicate. But first and foremost, the M50 remains a keyboard cornerstone for any musician. The remarkable piano offers three layers of stereo switching and an additional resonance layer for faithful and natural reproduction of the piano's entire dynamic range.
In addition to the grand pianos, a myriad of other piano and keyboard mainstays are included - from a mono piano for pumping it out live on stage, to the ever in-demand vintage Korg SG-1 Sampling Grand. The electric pianos are responsive, dynamic and expressive, with all the tine and hammer-slap you can muster. The new clavs feature all the classic settings with wide dynamic response, and there are even string and flute sounds taken from the tape-driven keyboards of days gone by. Korg's REMS pickup/amp/cabinet modeling technology provides that finishing touch. All the classics are there at your finger-tips; with spot-on programs that are a blast to play!
Need to quickly tweak a sound to your liking? No problem, Tone Adjust allows simple access to the most important parameters and characteristics of a sound without having to dive deeply into programming. Available in Program, Combi and Sequencer modes, you can get done what you need to with a minimum of fuss and effort.
Mix & Match In addition to the individual programs, a combination (or "combi") allows up to 16 sound programs to be stacked, split, layered and zoned across the keyboard; or set to individual MIDI channels. Nearly 400 of these combis come preloaded offering up tasty blends and splits for live performance. All of the preloaded sounds are completely editable, and there is plenty of room on-board (640 Programs, 512 Combinations) for all the sounds that you edit, modify, or create on your own.
Effect-ive Energy
The generous effect section of the M50 brings your sounds to life. Five insert effects and two master effects can be assigned and routed at will, with a total effect to add that final polish. From spacious and luxurious reverbs to space-warping modulation types, the effects can not only embellish a sound after the fact, they can be part of the sound programming itself - adding unique and defining sonic elements.
D-mod (Dynamic Modulation) even allows realtime control of various parameter effects as part of your performance, and effect parameters can be sync'd to the two common LFOs or a MIDI Clock source to further integrate the effects into the overall sound. Over 170 top-quality effects are available, including Korg's proprietary REMS modeling effects. Each program - whether alone, in a combi, or assigned to a sequencer track - is equipped with its own three-band EQ for that final tone shaping.
Let There Be Drums! It don't mean a thing if it ain't got that swing - and the M50's got it! We've squeezed in over 1,600 drum and percussion samples that can be laid out into full "drumkit" programs. Ready and waiting are 32 drumkits, with room for 48 more of your own. But there's more! In addition to drumkits, the drum track feature hosts some 670 drum grooves that you can jam along to, or use to kick-start and inspire your own song ideas. In fact, each program has a matching drum track pre-assigned to get you started. BAM!
Arpeggiation Maximus
The arpeggiator has been a staple on Korg keyboards since the 1980s, and the M50 more than delivers on that heritage! In addition to the ubiquitous up, down and random patterns you'd expect, the dual polyphonic arpeggiators on the M50 can serve up cascading chords, groovin' bass lines, chord-driven picking patterns and punchy accents to spice up your performance and set your musical ideas on fire. In the Sequencer and Combi modes, both arpeggiators can run simultaneously, each addressing different timbres, creating powerful possibilities such as one running drum grooves and one running bass patterns - or even using velocity to switch between patterns on the same sound!
Rapid Results Sequencing
Korg wrote the book on workstations, and the M50 delivers every chapter! The on-board sequencer is the core of your music production studio. Over 200,000 notes can be recorded on 16 MIDI tracks and up to 128 songs. Enhanced 480 ppq resolution captures your performance with pinpoint accuracy - whether you play in realtime or step notes in one at a time. A plethora of advanced, yet easy-to-use editing features are available to help you sculpt your song into its final form
Song Templates designed for a variety of musical genres allow you to get started quickly, with sounds and effects all selected and routed for you. Or try Korg's unique RPPR (Realtime Pattern Play/Recording) function, calling up any of the 671 drum patterns to get started, and assigning shorter patterns and phrases to individual keys; you can even loop each track to build the perfect groove before the inspiration runs out! Sequence individual sections of the song separately, and then use the Cue List function to assemble and tryout different arrangements - you'll be remix ready! And since you never know when inspiration will strike, the one-touch record (Auto Song Setup) feature transfers all your current settings into a new song and starts the sequencer, capturing your ideas as the foundation of a new song.
Enhanced Definition Synthesis (EDS) Our most advanced hardware engine ever, Korg's Enhanced Definition Synthesis is the musical heart of both the M50 and the M3. Each individual voice can lay claim to up to two stereo oscillators, four filters, two amp sections, five Low Frequency Oscillators (LFO), and five time-variant Envelope Generators (EG).
On the technical side, each stereo oscillator can achieve four-way velocity switching, crossfading, or layering. This allows a single voice to use up to eight stereo multisamples to ensure a dynamic and expressive sound. Each voice also has access to up to four multi-mode (High Pass, Band Pass, Band Reject, Low-pass) filters; two filters per oscillator running side by side, stacked or in series - as well as a superb 24dB mode. Even the amp section can add to the shape and texture of the sound with a drive circuit to add a harder, rougher edge, and a low boost to fatten up that big bottom.
The Envelope Generators provide changes in the sound over time, and the advanced Key Tracking changes the sound based on the note played - for example; notes played higher on the keyboard will sustain less, be brighter, and have both faster and shallower vibratos than notes played lower on the keyboard - adding a staggering level of nuanced control to balance your sound over the entire keyboard range. At each step of the EG, you can specify the shape and type of curve used to move between points, allowing unparalleled expression and accuracy. The five Low Frequency Oscillators access 18 different waveforms. Starting Phase and Amplitude Shift parameters offer even more detailed control for zeroing in on that perfect modulation.
Multi-waveform LFOs And when all that is not enough, Korg's Alternate Modulation Source (AMS) provides a matrix of over fifty modulation sources that be mixed, summed and added to a variety of parameters, providing exactly the result you want. In short, the Korg M50 provides a wealth of control over the minute components that make a keyboard sound great. And while Korg's programming is legendary, the EDS synth engine makes the M50 a sound designer's dream.
Plug-In Performance - Computer Integration
Your new M50 includes both stand-alone and plug-in sound editing software for more detailed graphic editing on your computer, and connects directly via USB. The plug-in version allows you to edit the M50's sounds from inside any DAW (VST, Audio Units, and RTAS formats), allowing your edits and changes to be part of the song file, and without having to switch applications to tweak a sound. The M50 also uses convenient SD cards for economical and reliable data storage.
Sounds. Easy. The M50 is chock full of sounds - and features. Yet Korg's high-visibility 320 x 240 pixel resolution TouchView interface allows direct touch-screen access to hundreds of parameters. Finding the sounds you need is simple thanks to our organizing them by category, as we do effects, drum patterns, arps and even waveforms. No other keyboard in its class offers anything approaching this level of elegance or intuitive ease-of-use. So take an M50 home today, and make your music - on your M50

With each Style, the microARRANGER follows your chord changes, voice leading, and the tempo you set to create additional musical parts to enhance your song. This can be something basic like a drum and bass rhythm section, an extra guitar part, all the way up to a stompin' R & B combo with a full horn section. The choice is always yours. You can develop your song by selecting a Style that's appropriate for the melody you have in mind, or try selecting various styles and playing around to see what melodies your imagination will come up with. By allowing the microARRANGER to take charge of the accompaniment and arrangement, you're free to concentrate on your songwriting without losing that initial flash of inspiration. It's an easy way to complete a rough sketch of your entire song.

Interactive Styles Inspire Your Creativity

The microARRANGER provides 304 Styles from such diverse musical genres as jazz, piano ballads, Latin, pop, and rock. Each one can assist you in producing pro-quality songs. Each Style includes intros, endings, fills, and breaks that can be used to accent a section or change the course of the song. Four variation of each backing Style are provided; each offers a different level of instrumentation or activity, allowing the song to build and alternate between sections. These backing variations can be quickly switched simply by pressing a button on the panel. The microARRANGER's sophisticated chord scanning function detects not only standard chords such as major and minor, but also complex ones such as 9th or 11th chords – as well as inversions – ensuring that the musical parts generated by the Style will correctly follow the most ambitious chord progressions. You are free to edit these styles, and store up to 48 of them in internal memory. New styles will also be available for free download at korgpa.com. By adding your own favorite Styles allows you to "customize" your microARRANGER for even more enjoyment.

Capturing Your Ideas, Recording Your Songs

The microARRANGER is equipped with powerful tools to capture your musical performances; and with different modes optimized for different uses.

    Backing Sequencer
    There are two ways to record using the backing sequencer. Realtime Recording captures everything in one pass, as you play. Each part you play, and each part the microARRANGER's Style engine plays, will be captured on a separate sequencer track. This allows any part to be edited independently at a later time.

    With Step Recording, the chords can be entered one at a time, and you can tell the sequencer how long to play each chord, specified in beats and measures. Additional parts, fills, variation changes and other musical information can all be entered in this way. This method is ideal for creating a step-by-step foundation for your song, without needing to rely on advanced keyboard skills.

    Song Sequencer

    This is a conventional one-track-at-a-time sequencer, like those found in a computer program or a workstation keyboard, with 16 tracks and a capacity of 56,000 notes. Using the Song Sequencer, you can layer additional melodic parts onto a song created using the backing sequencer. This is a convenient way to add the finishing touches required for full-fledged song production.
Sequence data created on the microARRANGER is also compatible with Standard MIDI Files, so you can import it into your DAW or software sequencer. In your PC you can perform further editing or add vocal tracks to bring your song data to its final stage of completion.

Advanced Korg Sound Engine

The microARRANGER is packed with the high-quality 662 sounds, 33 drum kits and 89 effects you've come to expect from Korg. There's a great selection of the sounds that pro musicians and producers use in the professional workplace – pianos, electric pianos, and organs; thick basses; realistic winds and strings; and tight drums – all instantly available for your immediate use. Also included are numerous high-quality effects, rivaling the quality of dedicated processors. These effects allow the creation of finished productions and audience-ready songs, without the need for any additional equipment.

SD/SDHC card data storage & transfer

Using the microARRANGER's SD card slot, additional style data can be loaded directly from your PC via SD card; it's also easy to transfer data to your PC.

Realtime performance

Although the microARRANGER's mini-keyboard is compact, it has been designed for great playability and a comfortable touch, with box-shaped keys and careful consideration of the proportions of the white and black keys. With a 61-key range, you'll be able to play using both hands for musically rich performances, or easily provide backing for a guitarist or vocalist --- a great way to experience the enjoyment of playing in a band. Another great feature for realtime performance is the panel crossfader that controls the XDS crossfade dual sequencer, letting you control the volume of both sequencers with a single knob for smooth transitions between songs. The compact size allows the microARRANGER to be taken anywhere for your musical enjoyment.

What is DJ?

Disc jockey

  A disc jockey, also known as DJ, is a person who plays recorded music for an audience. Originally, "disc" (sometimes spelled "disk", although this is now uncommon) referred tophonograph records, not the later Compact Discs. Today, the term includes all forms of music playback, no matter the medium.
         There are several types of disc jockeys. Radio DJs or radio personalities introduce and play music that is broadcast on AMFMshortwavedigital, or internet radio stations. Club DJs select and play music in barsnightclubs, or discothèques, or at parties or raves, or even instadiumsHip hop DJs select and play music using multiple turntables to back up one or more MCs/rappers, perform turntable scratching to create percussive sounds, and are also often music producers who use turntablism and sampling to create backing instrumentals for new tracks. In reggae, the DJ (deejay) is a vocalist who raps, "toasts", or chats over pre-recorded rhythm tracks while the individual choosing and playing them is referred to as aselector.[1] Mobile DJs travel with portable sound systems and play recorded music at a variety of events. According to a 2012 study there are approximately 1¼ million professional disc jockeys in the world.

Equipment and techniques

Club DJ equipment may consist of:

  • Sound recordings in a DJ's preferred medium (for example, vinyl records, Compact Discs, computer media files, etc.);
  • A combination of two devices (or only one, if playback is digital) to play sound recordings, for alternating back and forth to create a continuous playback of music (for example, record players, Compact Disc players, computer media players such as an MP3 player, etc.);
  • A multiple Sequencer which can mix MIDI tracks with Digital Audio;
  • sound system for amplification or broadcasting of the recordings (for example, portable audio system, PA system) or a radio broadcasting system;
  • DJ mixer, which is an (usually 2- or 4-channel) audio mixer usually equipped with acrossfader used to smoothly go from one song to another, using two or more playback devices;
  • Headphones, used to listen to one recording while the other recording is being played to the audience, or to listen to both recordings simultaneously; and
  • Optionally, a microphone, so that the DJ can introduce songs and speak to the audiences.
Other equipment could or can be added to the basic DJ setup (above), providing unique sound manipulations. Such devices include, but are not limited to:
  • Electronic effects units (delayreverboctaveequalizerchorus, etc.). Some club DJs use a subharmonic synthesizer effect which either doubles low frequencies with energy added an octave lower or synthesizes harmonics such that the impression of a very low bass sound is added to the mix.
  • A computerised performance system, which can be used with vinyl emulation software to manipulate digital files on the computer in real time.
  • Multi-stylus headshells, which allow a DJ to play different grooves of the same record at the same time.
  • Special DJ digital controller hardware that can manipulate digital files on a PC or laptop;
  • Samplers, sequencers, electronic musical keyboards (synthesizers), or drum machines.
  • A Midi Controller used to trigger different aspects of DJ Software, such as Serato Scratch Live, Virtual Dj, and Traktor.
Several techniques are used by DJs as a means to better mix and blend recorded music. These techniques primarily include thecueingequalization, and audio mixing of two or more sound sources. The complexity and frequency of special techniques depends largely on the setting in which a DJ is working. Radio DJs are less likely to focus on music-mixing procedures than club DJs, who rely on a smooth transition between songs using a range of techniques.
Club DJ turntable techniques include beatmatchingphrasing, and slip-cueing to preserve energy on a dancefloor. Turntablism embodies the art of cuttingbeat jugglingscratchingneedle dropsphase shiftingback spinning, and more to perform the transitions and overdubs of samples in a more creative manner (although turntablism is often considered a use of the turntable as a musical instrumentrather than a tool for blending recorded music). Professional DJs may use harmonic mixing to choose songs that are in compatible musical keys.[citation needed]
Recent advances in technology in both DJ hardware and software can provide assisted or automatic completion of some traditional DJ techniques and skills. Examples include phrasing and beatmatching, which can be partially or completely automated by utilizing DJ software that performs automatic Synchronization of sound recordings, a feature commonly labelled "Sync". Most DJ mixers now include a beat-counter which analyzes the tempo of an incoming sound source and displays its tempo in Beats Per Minute (BPM), which may assist with beatmatching analog sound sources. Software has also been written to assist with the identification of musical keys for use in harmonic mixing, which analyze computer media files for musical content and automatically determine the musical key.
